We would like to welcome these new artists to The Verb family! The music of these exceptional talents can be heard every Wednesday at 830pm PST, Friday at 8pm PST, Saturday at 12 am PST and Sunday at 3pm PST.

TJ BROWN

Born Tanya Jenine Brown, TJ was raised on the south side of Chicago. She studied music in high school and voice in college. Her favorite memory of music was singing for the teachers at her afterschool program. TJ says, “I was nervous but I remember feeling like I could fly and do anything and when I discovered I had a double gift from God and I could write--the feeling was indescribable.”

TJ had worked professionally as a session singer for ten years prior to deciding to pursue her own singing career. At the release of her album, Love’s Design, she was interviewed on Out the Box with Tim Dillinger and on Honeysoul.com with Vonnie Woods. She has also written for Ramel’s album, Closure.

TJ says about her style, “I maintain the smooth, I love sexy romantic music. I am a soul descendent of the past and a student of it as well.”
TJ Brown expresses her love of music through her music and she says, “No one should settle for something that they don’t want to do in life, sometimes sacrifices are made but you should do what you love and love what you do--I love music!”

UTIF RECIPE FOR 07/10/09

It's UTIF and The Verb is taking it back old school and classique. This week's recipe is for Vodka screwdrivers. Do they call them screwdrivers because after a couple you're screwed in the head? While I don't know the answer to that I do know that Written and I will be sipping ours while listening to hot poets scorch the mic on tonight's Speak Your Piece open mic show!

VODKA SCREWDRIVER

INGREDIENTS

Vodka
Orange juice
Ice
Tall glasses (Highball)

DIRECTIONS

1 1/2-2 ounces of vodka
4-6 ice cubes
Top with orange juice
Stir
Serve

UTIF DRINK RECIPES FOR 06/30/09

Ahhh summer what better way to celebrate the hottest time of the year but with a ice cold picture of iced tea or lemonade? Well this ain't yo mama's lemonade or tea (unless yo mama is a chartes member of AA). On this edition of UTIF it's Long Island Iced Tea and Lynchburg Lemonade. Tune in to The Verb for free drinks and freedom of speech as we celebrate our independence from the Friday grind. Friday is open mic night so feel free to call and speak your piece!
LONG ISLAND ICED TEA
INGREDIENTS
1 fluid ounce vodka
1 fluid ounce gin
1 fluid ounce triple sec liqueur
1 fluid ounce rum
1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle cola-flavored carbonated beverage
DIRECTIONS

Pour vodka, gin, triple sec and rum together into a large pitcher and adjust the cola proportions to your personal taste and stir. Pour into a tall glass with ice.
LYNCHBURG LEMONADE (courtesy of jackdaniels.com)
INGREDIENTS
1 part Jack Daniel’s® Tennessee Whiskey
1 part triple sec
1 part sour mix
DIRECTIONS

Stir all ingredients with 4 parts lemon-lime soda. Garnish with a lemon slice and cherries.
MY ISLAND TEA
This is a variation of the Long Island Tea based on a punch recipe from an old friend. I don't really measure anything so just add everything to taste. This recipe is very sweet due to the concentration of tea so some may want to add just a little water.
INGREDIENTS
Any type of instant tea mix (sweetened)
Lemon Lime Soda
Vodka, Gin, Rum, Whiskey whatever turns you on
DIRECTIONS
In a lareg pitcher add 2-3 cups of instant tea mix. Fill pitcher half full with lemon lime soda and stir. Add alcohol as little or as much as you want. I have had this with Vodka and Seagrams 7 (not together), but it also works if you add the traditional mix of alcohols that go into a Long Island Tea. Chill and serve in tall glasses filled with ice.
WARNING THIS DRINK WILL SNEAK YOU FROM BEHIND SO BE CAREFUL!

RIP

These three will forever be American icons. I remember thinking that Johnny Carson was for old people until I was old enough to stay up and watch, the voice of Ed McMahon is one I personally will never forget, only thing is I wish he would have brought me one of those giant checks!

Farrah Fawcett, always wanted that hair and remember wearing mine in her signature wings ( my mother has pics to prove it). I selected this picture of her because I used to have this same poster hanging on my bedroom wall. She was a beautiful woman with a gorgeous smile even to the end.

MJ, what more can be said about him? He was my pretend boyfriend forever, and though many made fun of him no one can deny this man was a musical genius and extraordinary performer. A friend said why is it that when celebs die we think the world is coming to an end and everyone is dying? Maybe it is because the world they have created for us has come to an end. Bravo Ed, Farrah and Mike the show may be over but the memory remains. Turn out the lights and exit stage left.

4DG- Remember

4 Da Grind was born out of 5 friends whose common bond lies in their driving passion
for music. The quest to share their gift with the world has produced a sound that especially identifies with those grinding it out, doing the hard yards, making a buck in
work that more often destroys the soul. Yet grinding it out they must in order to survive. Influenced by genres from Tock to Jazz, R&B, Reggae, County & Soul, each has his own musical preference from the sounds of Metallica to Earth Wind & Fire or Jagged Edge all of which can be identified in the subtleties of 4DG’s vocal harmonies and musical arrangements. As proud as they are of theirsound, what is most important to 4DG is the lyric. “Our lyrics need to havemeaningand purpose.” As one band member put it, “The lyrics are an expression of all of our combined experiences and I never want to trivialize the importance of those experiences. Their members hail from South Auckland, Remuera and reaching out West with experiences out o each culminating in a hard wired DNA dripping in cultural diversity that is rich in Maori, Samoan and Tongan family heritage.

MELINA- Keep On

Melina is a talented 19 year old singer/songwriter with a powerhouse voice who plays the classical guitar.
Born a few days after Christmas in the Republic of Congo, civil war forced her family to move to South Africa in 1995. She is Congolese, Angolan and Belgian.
At 16 she recorded her 1st demo CD, an album entitled Rhythm of Life. A buzz began. In August 2006 her track Keep Me Coming Back was chosen to be played on local radio station 5-FM as part of a demo contest. UJ-FM played 2 more of her songs: Let It Go and Not the End. At 18 she auditioned for the University of Johannesburg Choir and began singing Choral music. In 2008 the choir traveled extensively, performing throughout Europe – Germany, France, Denmark and the Czech Republic. To date Melina has written over 50 R&B and pop songs. Each of her songs reflects a lesson she’s learned or continues to learn.
Melina’s audience continues to grow as her infectious songs catch fire. Songs on MySpace (
www.myspace.com/melinasings) are racking up higher numbers every month. She’s also on YouTube(melinakat) and recently started a twitter account (www.twitter.com/melinasings ). Plans for 2009 include more performances, getting signed to a major label and recording a 2nd CD. Her music is rapidly beginning to catch the attention of audiences from the US, Europe and Several African Countries. Her goal is to be one of the industry’s platinum-selling artists!

4DG- Remember

4 Da Grind was born out of 5 friends whose common bond lies in their driving passion
for music. The quest to share their gift with the world has produced a sound that especially identifies with those grinding it out, doing the hard yards, making a buck in
