INTERVIEW WITH THE SULTRY ARETTA HILL 09/02/09

Aretta Hill-Everytime, My Life, Medicine

You have heard the soulful sultriness of Aretta Hill featured on The Verb for many weeks, now get to hear the woman outside of the voice. On Wednesday 09/02/09 The Verb welcomes special guest Aretta Hill.

More about Aretta:
It was not until the age of eight that the community started to recognize her extraordinary vocal ability. Surprised by the tremendous range of Aretta's vocals and the ability to create music she moved the hearts of audiences. Rooted in good music such as Gospel, Neo-Soul, R&B, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Rock, and Pop, she embraced the dedication it takes to make it in the music business. Aretta's sultry, hypnotic voice has afforded her opportunities to sing for great artists such as T-Mo Goodie from Goodie Mobb and Ken Orr. She also sang backup and performed on tour with Eric Benet. Aretta has opened up for artists such as Anthony Hamilton, Urban Mystic, Glenn Lewis, Mystical, Do or Die, and other national acts. In addition to working with various artists, Aretta is currently finishing work on her first solo project. She is working with various producers, such as Kelvin Wooten .

TJ BROWN

Born Tanya Jenine Brown, TJ was raised on the south side of Chicago. She studied music in high school and voice in college. Her favorite memory of music was singing for the teachers at her afterschool program. TJ says, “I was nervous but I remember feeling like I could fly and do anything and when I discovered I had a double gift from God and I could write--the feeling was indescribable.”

TJ had worked professionally as a session singer for ten years prior to deciding to pursue her own singing career. At the release of her album, Love’s Design, she was interviewed on Out the Box with Tim Dillinger and on Honeysoul.com with Vonnie Woods. She has also written for Ramel’s album, Closure.

TJ says about her style, “I maintain the smooth, I love sexy romantic music. I am a soul descendent of the past and a student of it as well.”
TJ Brown expresses her love of music through her music and she says, “No one should settle for something that they don’t want to do in life, sometimes sacrifices are made but you should do what you love and love what you do--I love music!”
